At Rainbow Chan Weddings and Events, we love when our couples use their wedding to express their personal style. Sonia and Matt did just that, and we’re thrilled to have played a role in their special day! Real love stories are what keep our wedding planners and coordinators inspired, and we adore hearing what makes each couple unique. Sometimes, this means switching out the traditional for the modern. Sonia and Matt were looking for more brick and beam, less banquet hall, more greens and ivy, less flowers. This couple had a vision, and our team loved creating an unforgettable wedding day at the Storys Building that perfectly represented this pair.
Sonia and Matt knew they wanted their special day to be relaxed and fun. This meant getting ready with their closest family and friends, and grabbing a quick bite before heading to the first look later that afternoon. Meanwhile, our planners were busy overseeing the installation of the stunning and simple florals at the Storys building. Once bride and groom were ready to go, they heading to Osgoode Hall for their first look under the idyllic green canopy and the perfectly cloudless August sky. Family photos at the venue followed, as did their gorgeous, minimalistic ceremony. This couple knew they wanted their guests to have a fantastic time and attend a really great party. They kept speeches to a minimum (though there was not a dry eye in the house!) and quickly moved onto the dancing portion of the night.
The venue choice for this particular event was flawless. The Rainbow Chan planners adore the Storys Building because it’s so versatile. Décor can be kept minimal like it was for Sonia and Matt, or the space can be dressed up to work with any theme or colour scheme. The location can’t be beat, especially when you’re planning a wedding for a trendy, downtown pair. The history of the building makes for fantastic cocktail conversation too – it’s over 170 years old! Our team loves working in a space with so much history, and it’s fun to think that each wedding that takes place in this space adds a little to Story of the building.
Our design plan for this event was deliberately understated. This couple favours the modern over the traditional, and it could be said that “less is more” is Sonia’s personal mantra. For this reason, the florist reserved flowers for the bouquets, installing gorgeous hanging greenery to bring down the ceiling, making the space feel more intimate. These installations matched beautifully with the white and green centerpieces, which included just enough to candles to create romantic ambient lighting. We didn’t overuse colour, the shades of pastel and navy blue that the bridal party wore tied into the backdrop beautifully, and gave a nod to the bride’s favourite colour: blue. The twinkle lights, gigantic cathedral windows and distressed brick completed the look, photographing beautifully, as you can see below.
The team of planners and coordinators at Rainbow Chan Weddings & Events wish Sonia and Matt all the best in their new life together. We are so grateful to have been a part of their beautiful day and are thrilled with our planners and designers’ work in bringing this couple’s vision to life.
